提香·韋切利奧出生在意大利威尼斯北部風(fēng)景秀麗的卡多萊,12歲時父親帶他游歷威尼斯,后來提香再次來到威尼斯便進了喬凡尼·貝利尼的工作室學(xué)畫,從此幾乎一生都沒有離開過威尼斯。

提香在喬凡尼畫室與比他大十一歲的喬爾喬內(nèi)(Giogione 1477-1510)共同作畫,喬爾喬內(nèi)享樂主義的人生觀,開放的思想行為,熟練的繪畫技巧以及對色彩超乎常人的敏感和表現(xiàn)力,令 提香崇拜得五體投地。喬爾喬內(nèi)竟成了他心目中的上帝。提香崇拜喬爾喬內(nèi),模仿他的繪畫風(fēng)格,以至人們幾乎辨別不出兩人作品的作者。

喬爾喬內(nèi)精細(xì)的蔭涼風(fēng)景圖、豐富的色差和消散技術(shù)對提香產(chǎn)生了很大影響。 不久,他們開始獨立接受訂畫,喬爾喬內(nèi)接受來的訂件,大都交給提香去完成,后來喬爾喬內(nèi)越來越發(fā)現(xiàn)在色彩創(chuàng)造和藝術(shù)技巧方面,提香有超過自己的可能,這使他們之間的關(guān)系開始冷淡和緊張。

從此喬爾喬內(nèi)更加抑郁寡言,他把這種內(nèi)心的不安發(fā)泄到更加放肆的尋歡作樂中去,使他在 33歲風(fēng)華正茂時,耗盡了精力,在一次鼠疫傳染流行時辭別了喧鬧的人世。

喬爾喬內(nèi)的早逝,使提香開始了獨立的藝術(shù)發(fā)展。這種藝術(shù)風(fēng)格體現(xiàn)了威尼斯藝術(shù)的成熟。隨后提香發(fā)揮出一種不斷增長的憂傷, 1576年的威尼斯大瘟疫,人們在北部海岸提香的別墅中找到了他,和死亡捉迷藏的游戲結(jié)束了,他在86歲時終于向死神屈服了。
