William Regan, I've been living in China for seven years.

Having a boy in China is called “Construction Bank” “建設(shè)銀行” while having a girl is referred to as “Merchant’s Bank” “招商銀行”. This is because men are expected to have good jobs, stable salaries, a house, and a car in order to be prospective husbands. (So Chinese parents joke that having a male costs much more money.)
The disparity between a man with a rich family and a man with a poor family is massive. The former can afford to loaf a bit — and his family will eventually provide him with the ways and means to find a suitable wife. The latter will have to struggle to earn money, provide for his parents, and also prove to be an attractive prospect for marriage.
Most Chinese men seem to favor long-term courtship approaches, while their Western counterparts might be a bit more rash. Many of them seem to slow play their interactions with girls — chatting with them on WeChat, taking them to dinner, and overall courting them for a longer period of time.
I’ll have to revisit this topic at another time. That’s all I’ve got for now.

Chinese masculinity means man doing as much housework as possible and let their wives/girl friends enjoy more pleasure of life.
Chinese men would let their wives be the treasurers of their family, and hand in all their wages to their wives, or just give their pay card to them. Meanwhile, they only get a pitiful amount of pocket money from their wives.
Chinese men listens to their wives’ instructions and take their orders. The significant other is like an empress at home.
When their wives or girlfriends have their period, Chinese men would take care of their partners particularly meticulously, which means no cold water to drink or touch, nor household chores. They would make hot ginger drink or hot soup for them, amuse them and tolerate their grumbles.
Chinese men aren’t habituated to say out loud “I Love You”, but they do say Love You deep down. In their mind, love is in acts not in words.
Chinese men like making life-long friends. Even though they probably have never meet each other in decades, as long as they think they are still friends, they would do whatever to help the friend. If the husband’s friend is in financial difficulty, the poor husband would beg their wives for some money to help their friends. Certainly a wise wife must know how to maintain her man’s dignity.
Chinese men usually show their filial piety to their parents, so a man can be the punchbag both for his wife and his mother, when the two empresses have conflicts.
Chinese men particularly care about their face and reputation. They follow Confucian teachings and try to be benevolent, righteous, courteous, wise, and trustworthy.
Chinese men would make great sacrifices for the family and delight in his contributions to the clan. They would save money for his children’s education rather than squander it on cool flashy toys for themselves.
Chinese men don’t like preening themselves every day; they only do this on special occasions. Hair spray, styling gel, cologne are not the necessities in most men’s washrooms; people tend to think these are only for fashion followers or metrosexual men, though seemingly more young men use them.

[/copy]

They are gentlemen in actions more than words.
In general, they are much more conscious in “saving face” than Western men. *Edited. Credit: Peter
They have to drink extensively for business purpose.
They have to get real drunk or fake drunk for business purposes.
Most them takes relationship very seriously. Men who are having “casual relationship” or “uncommitted relationship” are most likely to be regarded as playboys and philanderers. Unacceptable.
Some of them treat their wives like empresses.
Some of them make their wives treat them like emperors.
Don't expect a Chinese father to say he loves you frequently. As stated in point 1, he does it in action.
They are very devoted to family, willing to do anything for them, by that I mean sacrifice holidays, every penny they've earned, relaxation hours, personal times at a level that westerners rarely reach.
They are human being like the rest of the world population. They care about loved ones and focus on making a better life; sometimes the way to interpret is slightly different.
