    約翰·威廉姆·沃特豪斯（John William Waterhouse）（1849年4月6日--1917年2月10日）是英國前拉斐爾派畫家。擅長描繪神話的女性，被稱為“現(xiàn)代前拉斐爾派”，很大膽地借鑒法國印象派的繪畫技法到他的作品了。沃特豪斯出生在意大利羅馬，小時(shí)候取了一個(gè)意大利語外號叫“尼諾”。父親是英國約克郡人，是個(gè)功底堅(jiān)實(shí)的畫家，母親是意大利人。沃特豪斯從小受到父親影響，很早就顯示了繪畫天分，親戚朋友都戲稱他為尼諾，即意大利文藝復(fù)興時(shí)代大師喬凡尼諾的簡稱。由于沃特豪斯早年在意大利生活過8年時(shí)間，所以對希臘神話非常喜歡，以至后來多以希臘神話為作畫題材。   
    沃特豪斯晚期藝術(shù)在題材寓意上日趨模糊，失去了早年的深度，表現(xiàn)力也大為減弱，其藝術(shù)也逐步失去應(yīng)有的光彩。 1883年他與一位美術(shù)學(xué)校校長的女兒結(jié)婚，后生兩孩子，都死于產(chǎn)難。他妻子也是曾經(jīng)在皇家藝術(shù)學(xué)院的展覽會(huì)上有參展作品的畫家。繪畫之余沃特豪斯從事美術(shù)教學(xué)工作，任過皇家藝術(shù)學(xué)院委員會(huì)委員，而加入各種藝術(shù)協(xié)會(huì)。浪漫如夢幻般的唯美畫作，雖然他意想成為拉斐爾前派的風(fēng)格，然而表現(xiàn)的是屬於自我靈感的特殊形式。他的成功不僅在表現(xiàn)感官上的完美，同時(shí)能使人用自我認(rèn)知、自我世界來闡述之，他1917年死于癌癥。
