以至于我們?nèi)祟惗紵o法好好領(lǐng)悟 it's impossible for us to truly grasp. 無論是尋找伴侶花四海尋找食物 Whether searching for a mate or food, 不管是回歸舊巢 whether flying to old nests 還是找尋新家 or finding new homes... 春天來了 spring is here, 該是時候翱翔天空了 so it's time to take to the skies. 成群的雪雁循著各自的路線 Groups of snow geese take individual routes 飛翔在北美的上空 all over North America, 從墨西哥灣 from the Gulf of Mexico 到達(dá)北極區(qū)的繁殖溫床 to breeding grounds in the Arctic. 有些是全家一起出行 Some travel in families, 父母帶領(lǐng)著小鳥們 the parents leading their young. 它們訓(xùn)著大自然的路標(biāo)前進(jìn) They're guided by natural landmarks 比如密西西比河 like the Mississippi River, 一條巨大的連續(xù)彎路指引者回家的方向 one giant winding road pointing the way home. 其它的鳥類走了更西邊的路線 Other groups are taking a more western route. 對于好多小鳥來說這是第一次長途飛行 For some younger ones, it's their first time. 一次或者兩次 Once or twice is enough to create 就足以畫出能記住一生的腦海地圖 a detailed mental map that lasts a lifetime. 它們的旅途跨過了幾百個地標(biāo) Their journeys pass hundreds of landmarks. 它們可以短短幾天 They can cross an entire continent 就跨越一整個大陸 in just a few days. 前方的指示牌 As signposts go, 是尼亞加拉大瀑布 Niagara Falls will do just fine. 告訴了雪雁們 你們就快到了 It says to the snow geese, you're almost there. 海的那邊 肯尼亞的天空開始泛紅 Across the ocean, dawn breaks over Kenya, 這里是一種神秘生物的故鄉(xiāng) home to an almost mythical creature. 這種鳥類的古老名字叫做 The old world name for these birds 鳳凰 translates to 'phoenix,' 浴火重生的鳥類 the bird reborn from fire. 火烈鳥們的一天開始的一如往常 The flamingo's day begins as every day does, 在淺灘上散步覓食 strolling and feeding in the shallows. 但現(xiàn)在河里已經(jīng)沒有食物了 But now their lake has run out of food, 所以他們必須再找一個 so the flamingo's perspective, 拼貼畫一樣的莊稼變成了藝術(shù) a collage of crops becomes a work of art. 征途繼續(xù) The quest continues. 隨著下午的到來 一個充滿希望的景象出現(xiàn)了 But with the afternoon comes a promising sight. 新的湖泊有大量的食物 This new lake holds an abundance of food... 心滿意足 A cause for contentment. 火烈鳥天生是白色的羽毛 Flamingos come into this world with white feathers. 它們吃進(jìn)去的蝦類 會讓它們變成熾烈的粉色 The shrimp they eat transform them into a fiery pink. 它們吃得越多 The more they eat, 就變得越粉紅 越健康 the healthier and pinker they become. 它們就連選擇伴侶 They even choose a partner 也要看對方羽毛的粉色程度 based on the depth of their color, 所以在火烈鳥眼里 So in the eyes of a flamingo, 越粉紅 越美艷 to be more pink is to be more beautiful. 再往肯尼亞南部走一走 Further south in Kenya, 鸛剛剛開始啟程去往歐洲 storks set off on their journey to Europe. 它們不僅僅是飛翔 They don't just fly. 更是滑翔 They glide. 但想要滑翔 就需要一定的高度 But to glide, they need height. 就好像沖浪的選手 它們會接收暖氣流 Like a surfer riding a wave, they catch thermals, 成團(tuán)的熱氣 columns of hot air, 在偉大的航程中幫助它們 to help them on their epic voyage. 跟隨著星星和太陽的指引 Guided by the stars and sun, 鸛每年也都在天上 storks follow the same paths 朝著同樣的路徑飛去 across the sky every year. 這叫做候鳥遷徙所經(jīng)的路徑 We call them flyways. 隨著地球的潮漲潮落 As the rhythms of the planet ebb and flow 鸛下方的陸地上 beneath the storks, 另一種動物 也很本能的 other animals instinctively know 知道何時要開啟自己的旅程 when to set off on their own journeys. 這是大自然無邊無際的發(fā)條 Nature's immense clockwork. 眾多活動的部分 相輔相成 串聯(lián)其中 A multitude of moving parts, all interconnected. 這是一個恒定磁通的世界 A world in constant flux. 旅途是朝著目的地心懷期待的前進(jìn) To travel is to feel the pull of a destination, 一個遙遠(yuǎn)的概念 引領(lǐng)著我們永遠(yuǎn)向前 a distant notion, drawing us forever onward. 無論是筑巢或者挖洞 Whatever nest or burrow, 該回家的時間 the time always comes 永遠(yuǎn)會到來 to travel home. 數(shù)世紀(jì)以來 鸛一直被大家看做是送子鳥 For centuries, a stork has been a sign of a new baby. 或許這是因?yàn)?/span> Maybe that's because each year, 每一年他們都要飛回北方的家 they fly north to their nests, 回去產(chǎn)下自己的幼雛 where they have chicks of their own. 古羅馬時期 如果鸛在你的屋頂上筑巢 In Roman times, it was considered lucky 是很幸運(yùn)的 if a stork nested on your roof. 這個德國小村莊的居民們 The residents of this German village 還在搭建屋頂 still build rooftop platforms... 這對兩邊來說都是好事 An excellent deal for both parties. 鳥兒們有了安家的巢穴 For the birds, a place to nest, 而對于人類 and for the humans, 他們得到了好運(yùn) a dose of good luck. 他們是完美謹(jǐn)慎的鄰居 They make perfectly discreet neighbors. 鸛們不會吱吱作響 Storks have no squawk or chirp. 他們一生都很沉默 They live in silence. 而他們的表兄鶴 Their cousins, cranes, 可是一點(diǎn)都不安靜 more than make up for the stork's silence. 年輕和鶴們從歐洲 Young cranes migrate across straight lines. 鶴們尋找伴侶的需求 The crane's great search for companionship 很快將會得到滿足 will soon be fulfilled, 但暫時還有很長的路途要前行 but for now, there's more sky to cover. 驚鳥向南橫跨歐洲 The starlings are traveling south across Europe 找尋食物和新家 in search of food and a new home. 他們引人入勝的行動 Their spellbinding movements 在古羅馬上方面出了一幅壁畫 paint a fresco on the sky above ancient Rome. 他們小巧的腦袋 Their tiny brains are joined in
