but very few people use or eat orange peels, 
knowing that they are very nutritious and useful.

Benefits of orange peel

橙子皮對身體健康有很多好處。

(橙子皮分為橙黃色的外皮和里面的白色部分。)

Orange peel has many benefits for body health.
(The outer part of the Orange peel is called zest, the white part between the rind and juicy centre is called pith).

橙皮含有大量纖維和類黃酮,維生素A、C、B5和B6,以及鈣、核黃素、硫胺素、煙酸和葉酸。

Orange peel is high in fibre and flavonoids as well as vitamins A, C, B5 and B6, plus calcium, riboflavin, thiamin, niacin and folate.

橙皮中某些營養(yǎng)物質(zhì)的含量高于水果本身,例如,100克橙皮含有136毫克維生素C,而通常食用的果肉只含有71毫克。

Orange peels contain certain nutrients at higher rates than the fruit itself, for example 100 grams of orange peels 136 mg of vitamin C, while orange fruit, which is usually eaten 71mg.

-橙子皮干/橙子皮粉的做法:-

The orange peel can be dried at home in easy and simple steps, following the following steps:

1. 注意選擇的橙子是不打蠟的橙子,最好是生態(tài)或有機種植的??!

1. Select good quality wax-free oranges, preferably organic!!

2. 將橙子清洗干凈,用棉布拍干。

2. Thoroughly wash the oranges, and pat dry with a cotton cloth.

3.  用一把鋒利的刀或蔬菜削皮刀,去皮。盡量避免切到皮的白色部分(白色部分可以分開削皮,另使用*,見下文)。

3. Using a sharp knife or vegetable peeler, peel them. Try to avoid cutting into the white part of the skin (keep the white part called pith for using separately* see bellow).

4. 將皮切成薄片,以便它們能更快地干燥。

4. Chop up the peels into thin slices so that they can dry faster.

5. 用蔬果烘干機、烤箱或者在冬天也可以放在暖氣上。

5. You can use a food dryer dehydrator,bake on low temperature in the oven or place next to a heater in winter.

6. 徹底曬干后,加入攪拌機的磨粉杯打成細(xì)粉。

6. After they are fully dried add them to a high powered blender or food processor and grind them until they are a fine powder.

7. 將橙皮粉放在一個密封的玻璃鋼保存(可保存至6個月)。

Using Dried Orange Peels


1. 泡茶:
橙皮干可以單獨沖熱水泡茶,也可以與其它茶類一起泡茶,就類似陳皮一樣。
 
1. Add dried orange peels to tea.
Put a strip or two of dried orange peel into a cup of your favourite freshly-steeped tea. The orange flavour is especially delicious with green or black tea.

4. Use orange peels to replenish the air:
Fill an airtight container with dried orange peels, cinnamon sticks, nutmeg, dried flowers, and a few drops of an essential oil like clove, orange, or cinnamon. Let it sit for 3 days, shaking the container a few times each day, to allow the aroma to strengthen. Then, place the potpourri in a pretty vase or bowl and set it out in your home.

Although not as strong in flavour as the dark-coloured rind or the inner part of the fruit, but actually, the pith has a lot benefits too:

Pith is rich in fibre:

-食用法-

Eating the orange pith


可以直接與果肉一起食用。第一次吃時可能會有輕微的苦味,不過其實味道與金橘相似,習(xí)慣了會發(fā)現(xiàn)味道其實挺不錯。

The best way to consume it is along with the fruit. Remove the peel delicately so a large proportion of the pith stays on the fruit. It may taste slightly bitter in the first go, but it will add a new flavour to the tangy, sweet orange.

不敢直接吃也可以曬干/烘干,然后在料理機的磨粉杯磨成粉,可以作為天然的維生素C保健品用,提高免疫系統(tǒng)。

也添加到橙子味的烘焙或自制果醬中,以增強味道和營養(yǎng)價值,就像使用果皮的外層一樣(不過外層的味道會更濃更香一些)。

You can also collect the pith and dry them separately from the zest ,then churn it in the grinder to make powder which you can use as a natural healthy Vitamin C powder to boost your immune-system;
or to add in orange based desserts or marmalades for enhanced flavour and nutritive value just similar as you would use the zest (the zest has a more stronger flavour though).
