Global Science Graduate Course (GSGC), Ph.D.OverviewGSGC is an international graduate program that was recently launched by Graduate School of Science at the University of Tokyo and allows students to obtain their degrees in English. This program welcomes excellent graduates from universities all over the world, fostering world-class science professionals, and standardizes a five-year integrated education scheme in which students attend both the Master's program and the Doctoral program in sequence. Students on GSGC are also provided with a monthly scholarship during their time on the program and support in finding employment following graduation.
Programme StructureGSGC consists of a two year Master’s program and a three year Doctoral program, for a total of up to five years. To complete GSGC, Master’s students must pass a Qualifying Examination following completion of their thesis and Doctoral students must pass a Final Examination following completion of their dissertation. As examination details may vary depending on the department, students are encouraged to consult with their department for further information.
English Language RequirementsThis programme may require students to demonstrate proficiency in English. General RequirementsProspective students should have the intention of completing both the Master's and Doctoral programs in sequence, have completed 16 years of education abroad, and have graduated or will graduate from a 3 or 4 year undergraduate program at a university outside of Japan before entering GSGC. The living costs include the total expenses per month, covering accommodation, public transportation, utilities (electricity, internet), books and groceries. FundingStudents accepted onto GSGC will be provided with a monthly scholarship of 180,000 Japanese yen to help with tuition and living expenses.
