say在這里不是講話的意思, 而是舉例, 類似于我們之前學(xué)到的let’s say
You could learn the basics in,let’s say, three months.
Let’s take any writer, say (= for example) Dickens…

蓋房子我們可以說(shuō)build houses/home, 變成名詞就是home-building/house-building
想到一個(gè)相似的詞: bodybuilding: 擼鐵長(zhǎng)肌肉
碰到這樣的合成詞, 大家要多多注意, 因?yàn)槲覀兤匠＝佑|的少, 這種詞很難變成主動(dòng)詞匯

要充分理解這是多么的荒謬, 想象一下假如我們用這種方式來(lái)做生活中其它的事情, 比如, 蓋房子

2 So we bring in the contractor, say, “told we have two weeks to build a/the foundation. Do what you can.”
所以我們帶來(lái)包工的, 說(shuō): 我們有兩周的時(shí)間來(lái)建造地基. 盡力而為吧

3 So they, they do what they can.
所以他們就盡力而為了

4 Maybe it rains. Maybe some of the supplies don’t show up.
也許下雨了. 也許某些原料沒(méi)有(按時(shí))抵達(dá)

5 And two weeks later, the inspector comes, looks around, says,”O(jiān)K, the concrete is still wet right over there, that part’s not quite up to code … I’ll give it an 80 percent.
兩周之后, 檢查員過(guò)來(lái), 四處看看, 說(shuō): 這里的混凝土還沒(méi)干. 那邊不太符合要求…我給個(gè)80分吧

6 Say, “Great! That’s a C. Let’s build the first floor.”
說(shuō): 好! 80分的話那就是C了. 咱們現(xiàn)在蓋第一層吧
