安德魯·勞埃德·韋伯作曲的兩幕音樂劇《貓》是迄今為止最為成功的音樂劇，從1982年--2000年，共上映7485場，本是在倫敦西區(qū)及紐約百老匯上演時(shí)間最長的音樂劇，直到2006年被音樂劇《歌劇魅影》追平并打破這一紀(jì)錄。
《貓》是劇作者韋伯根據(jù)艾略特為兒童寫的詩改編的?！敦垺返膭?chuàng)作并非一帆風(fēng)順，直到離上演時(shí)間很接近時(shí)，作者尚未找到感情宣泄之處，導(dǎo)演特里沃·南要求作者再作修改。當(dāng)晚，韋伯創(chuàng)作了該劇最為流行的歌曲之一——《回憶》，但只有旋律而沒有歌詞。他們請(qǐng)?jiān)~作家?guī)兔Γ稍嚵藥状味疾粷M意。最后，在公演前幾天，導(dǎo)演南終于想到了"回憶"這個(gè)詞，把這首歌用于一只叫格里澤貝拉的雌貓上，她離開杰里科貓族到外面去闖蕩，歷盡艱險(xiǎn)，最后回憶起在家族中的幸福生活，渴望回歸家族，唱出了這首動(dòng)人的歌。通過這一構(gòu)思，導(dǎo)演才完成了這部音樂劇的組織:工作，把一個(gè)個(gè)的片斷串聯(lián)成了一個(gè)整體，該劇于1982年10月7日首演于紐約百老匯的冬園劇院。 《貓》曾獲得七項(xiàng)托尼獎(jiǎng)?！痘貞洝?span style="text-indent: 2em;">則成為現(xiàn)代音樂中的經(jīng)典家喻戶曉。這一首歌曾被錄制過六百次之多，包括著名的歌手芭芭拉史翠珊。
