There is a film that has long time dominated 'the Top 250 Films List' on the popular review site Douban. It is The Shawshank Redemption, a classic that premiered in 1994.

Despite being set in a prison, the movie has resonated with many as it conveys an inspiring message about hope, friendship and persistence.

Perhaps the movie's most famous quote — 'Some birds aren't meant to be caged, that's all. Their feathers are just too bright.' — has encouraged a lot of movie fans to pursue their own dreams.

However, it's perhaps a lesser-known fact that the film has a special connection with Rita Hayworth, the 1940s Hollywood star, whose name appears in the original title of Stephen King's adapted novella, Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption.

For most young Chinese movie fans, the iconic beauty who is ranked among her era's top acting stars, is probably an unfamiliar face.

As I write this story, I can't help but pay more respect to the golden age of Hollywood. You see, stars of that era were not just actors and actresses; they bore the weight of the times, often providing hope of some sort, whether it was to soldiers fighting World War 2, or the fictional inmates of a real prison in Maine.
