He is a geotechnical professor emeritus at the Norwegian Technical University, Trondheim, Norway. For half a century Charles Thompson has been a driving force behind the development of the field of Geotechnics, both in Norway and in the World. Strong in theory, yet with strong interest in practical applications, his exciting guidance has been his permanent mark. He has captured many with his so strong, yet friendly personality. 2017 addendum Charles the wonderful passed away at 89 peacefully, contrary to his life that he lived like a storm. What a privilege it is to be a student of this great man. He was not just a great man, he was a giant. Bujang B.K. Dr Bujang Bin Kim Huat is a Professor at the Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University Putra Malaysia, Malaysia. He obtained his M.Sc. in Soils Mechanics from the Imperial College, London, and Ph.D. from the University of Manchester, UK. His special area of interest is in the field of tropical residual soil engineering, soft clay engineering, organic and peat soils engineering, and fundamental behavior of soils. He has authored and co-authored 17 books edited 9 conference proceedings and published over 80 journal and conference papers in field of soil mechanics and foundation engineering. Susan Kart Distinguished Professor of Art History and Africana Studies, Ph.D., Columbia University. Professor Kart joined the Art, Architecture, Design Department and the Africana Studies program at Lehigh University in 2013. Prior to this, she was Assistant Professor awarded Tenure at Sarah Lawrence College. She has also taught at Smith College, the Savannah College of Art and Design and Columbia University. She obtained her graduate and doctoral degrees from Columbia University and her undergraduate work was conducted at Smith College. Her teaching and research specializations are on the arts of Francophone West and Central Africa from the colonial period to the present.
