1.教材分析

I. Teaching material

The topic of A Lesson in a Lab is taken from Senior High English Book 1 Module 5. By studying this class, I’ll enable students to know some knowledge of two scientific experiments. Meanwhile, I will let the students know what the scientific spirit is and what the right attitude they should have toward English.

2.分析學生

Ⅱ.Students

The students are in Senior 1. First, they have had the basic English skills like speaking, reading and writing. Second, they are interested in scientific experiments, so I think this topic can attract them. However, in the past, as far as I know, they seldom think about questions actively and deeply, so I think their think quality needs improving through the class.

According tothe new standard curriculum, based on English Core Literacy, and after studying the teaching material, I list my teaching aims as follows:

1. Knowledge aim

Students can master some important words, expressions and sentences about A Lesson in a Lab.

1) Students can understand the basic rules and procedures of the experiments.

2) Students can report the result themselves.

All the aims above are connected withEnglish key competencies,which is based on the new standard curriculum.

1. Arouse students’ interest in scientific experiments.

2. Show students the western’s attitude toward science and encourage them to have a right scientific spirit.

IV .Teaching Points

l重點 Important point:How to lead the students to understand the procedures of two experiments.

l 難點 Difficult point: How to improve their thinking quality by a critical thinking and a creative thinking.

V .Teaching and Studying Methods

In this class, I will use “PWP” teaching method in this class, which means “Pre-reading” “While-reading” and “Post-reading”.

t Pre-reading: I will give students the learning documents in advance so that they can learn the topic,

passages and new words together.

t While-reading: I will use task-based teaching method and communicative teaching method.

t Post-reading: I will improve students’ thinking quality and character building in the part.

VI. Teaching Procedure

Here comes the most important part, the teaching procedure. It includes 5 steps.

課前熱身 是提高學生興趣的最關(guān)鍵環(huán)節(jié) ,實際教學中 ,由于時間關(guān)系,大部分教師直接省略!

Step 1 Warming up

To make the beginning of my class interesting enough, I will roleplay a Chemistry teacher and I will welcome my students to my lab by a video. But before they enter my lab, they should know some rules.

? Purpose of my design: To make the beginning of my class interesting enough.

閱讀理解 預讀

Step 2 Pre-reading

Students will learn some new words of Medals and the tools we need later by matching exercise.

? Purpose of my design: To help students understand the following passages better.

Step3 While-reading

In this part, there are two passages. Passage A is quite easy, which is the reaction of metals, so students will read it by fast-reading then answering some questions. Passage B is a little complicated, which is about a scientific experiment, so I will ask students to read it carefully by themselves, discuss the result in their groups and report the conclusion to the class.

? Purpose of my design: Improve students’ language skills and learning ability(核心素養(yǎng)).

Step 4 Post-reading

According to the English Core literacy, improving students thinking quality and building their character is a must in our English class. So I designed two questions--- one is a critical question and the other is a creative question to achieve my aims.

l Critical thinking: To be honest, do you think the Lab is a “heaven” or a “hell”? Why?

l Creative thinking: If you were given a lab with every tool and material you want, what do you want to create most? Why?

Character building: 1.Use three words to describe what scientific spirit in your mind is.2. What attitude we should toward scientific experiments?

? Purpose of my design: To improve students thinking quality and cultural character(核心素養(yǎng)).

Step5 Homework

Today’s assignment: Write a letter to your pen-pal Anna to tell her what happened in today’s lab.

? Purpose of my design: To review today’s lesson and improve students’ writing ability.
