This is a column chart which clearlyillustrates the striking contrast in part-time jobs by college students in acertain university. Overall, seniors have the largest proportion of part-timejobs, with 88.24%; then the next are juniors and sophomores, at 71.93% and71.13% respectively; and finally come the freshmen, with 67.77%. And it is alsonoticeable that over half of students in four grades take part-time jobs.

Then, what result in this phenomenon? To myunderstanding, at least two fundamental causes can account for this trend. Forone thing, college study is characterized by its two long vacations—summer andwinter vacations, which enable youngsters in college to have adequate time to broadentheir horizon and gain additional income by part-time jobs. For another,compared with freshmen, sophomores and juniors, seniors have richerprofessional knowledge, greater demand for work experience and more free time;therefore, a larger percentage of them participate in part-time positions.  

Accordingly, it is advisable for universityauthorities to focus more eyesight the issue of students’ part-time jobs.Meanwhile, it is essential to college students to work out comprehensivestrategies to balance their academic pursuit and part-time jobs.
