 Now Sarai, Abram's wife, had borne him no children. But she had an Egyptian maidservant named Hagar; so she said to Abram, "The LORD has kept me from having children. Go, sleep with my maidservant; perhaps I can build a family through her."
莎萊，亞伯蘭的妻子，沒有替他生兒女。但她有一個(gè) | 埃及女奴叫夏甲；莎萊對亞伯蘭說：“主使我不能生育。你跟我的女奴同房吧；也許籍她我能建立一個(gè)家。”
Abram agreed to what Sarai said. So after Abram had been living Canaan ten years, Sarai his wife took her Egyptian maidservant Hagar and gave her to her husband to be his wife. He slept with Hagar, and she conceived.
亞伯蘭同意莎萊的話。所以亞伯蘭在伽南住了十年以后，莎萊就把他的埃及女奴夏甲給亞伯蘭為妾。亞伯蘭跟夏甲同房，她懷了孕。
When she knew she was pregant, she began to despair her mistress. Then Sarai said to Abram, "You are responsible for the wrong I am suffering. I put my servant in your arms, and now that she knows she is pregnant, she despises me. May the LORD judge between you and me." "Your servant is in your hands, " Abram said. "Do with her whatever you think the best." Then Sarai mistreated Hagar; so she fled from her.
她一發(fā)覺自己懷孕，就驕傲起來，瞧不起莎萊。莎萊向亞伯蘭埋怨：“你該為我所受的委屈負(fù)責(zé)。我把她交給你，現(xiàn)在她知道自己有孕，就瞧不起我。愿主在你我中間主持公道?！薄昂冒?！她是你的女奴，在你手中，”亞伯蘭回答，“你可以隨意待她！”于是莎萊虐待夏甲；她受不了，就逃走了。
The angel of the LORD found Hagar near a spring in the desert; it was a spring that is beside the road to Shur. And he said, "Hagar, servant of Sarai, where have you come from, and where are you going?" "I'm running away from my mistress Sarai," she answered.
主的天使在沙漠的一口泉邊找到夏甲；這是一口在通往晝珥的路邊的泉。他說：“夏甲，莎萊的女奴呀，你從哪里來，往哪里去？”夏甲回答道：“我從我的女主人那里逃跑了。”
Then the angel of the LORD told her, "Go back to |
 | your mistress and submit to her." The angel added, "I will so increase your descendants that they will be too numerous to count." The angel of the LORD also said to her: " You are now with child and you will have a son. You shall name him Ishmael, for the LORD has heard of your misery. He will be a wild donkey of a man; his hand will be against everyone and everyone's hand against him, and he will live in hostility toward all his brothers."
主的天使告訴她說：“回到你的女主人那里去，順從她?！碧焓褂终f：“我要因此使你的子孫眾多，多到?jīng)]有人能算的出。”上帝的天使還對她說：“現(xiàn)在你懷孕了，你將要生一個(gè)兒子。你要給他取名以實(shí)瑪利，因?yàn)橹髀牭搅四愕耐纯?。你兒子?huì)像一頭野驢；處處與人敵對，人也與他敵對，他將生活在與兄弟的敵對之中。”
She gave this name to the LORD who spoke to her: "You are my God who sees me." for she said, "I have now seen the One who sees me." That is why the well was called Beer Lahai Roi; it is still there, between Kadesh and Bered. So Hagar bore Abram a son, and Abram gave the name Ishmael to the son she had borne. Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar bore Ishmael.
夏甲向那位對她說話的主說：“你是能洞察我心的上帝，”她說：“我終于看見了能洞察我心的上帝?！币虼?，人家叫那口井庇耳拉海萊（意為能洞察我心的活上帝之井）這口井至今仍在，位于加低斯和巴列之間。夏甲給亞伯蘭生了一個(gè)兒子，亞伯蘭給他取名以實(shí)瑪利。夏甲為亞伯蘭生以實(shí)瑪利的時(shí)候亞伯蘭八十六歲。
