no more than 與 not more than

1. no more than 的意思是“僅僅”“只有”“最多不超過”,強(qiáng)調(diào)少。如:

--This book is not more difficult than that one. (This book is not so difficult as that one.)

no more...than 與 no less...than

He is less a teacher than an expert./He is more an expert than a teacher.

no less than 與 not less than

  1. no less than 的意思是“多達(dá)”“有……之多”,強(qiáng)調(diào)多,與 no more than 意思相反。如:

Italian is no less a mother tongue for him than English.

     1. How beautifully she sings!I have never heardvoice.

  A. a better B. a best

  C. the better D. the best

I have never heard a better voice than her voice

He is fine, never better.

This bird is really lovely. I’ve never seen a finer one.

?。?)“I’ve never found a better job.”“.”

  A. I don’t think so B. Too bad

  C. Congratulations D. Don’t worry

C。I’ve never found a better job 可視為 I’ve never found a better job than this job

?。?)“What do you think of the service here?”“Oh, . We couldn’t have found a better place.”

  A. too bad B. sorryC. wonderful D. impossible

C。We couldn’t have found a better place 可視為 We couldn’t have found a better place than this place,其意為“我們不可能找到一個(gè)比這兒更好的地方”,即“這是我們所能找到的最好的地方”。

?。?) Boris has brains. In fact, I doubt whether anyone in the class hasIQ.

  A. a highB. a higher C. the higher D. the highest

  (4) How cold it is! We’ve never hadthis winter.

  A. the colder day B. a cold day

  C. the coldest dayD. a colder day

  2. Professor White has written some short stories, but he isknown for his plays.

  A. the best B. moreC. better D. the most

  【分析】此題首先不宜選 B 或 D,因?yàn)?well known 的比較級(jí)和最高級(jí)通常是 better known 和 best known,有時(shí)也可以是 more well known 和 most well known, 但通常不能是 more known 和 most known。

  3. You arecareful than your brother. You two can’t do the work that needs care and skill.

  A. not more B. no more

  C. not lessD. no less

  not more...than=不如……

  no more...than=和……

  not less...than=不如……

  no less...than=和……

You are more careful than he is.

You are not more careful than he is.

You are no more careful than he is.

You are less careful than he is.

You are not less careful than he is.

You are no less careful than he is.

4.“Oh, how fat he is!”“But I think he isthan fat.”

  A. shortB. shorter C. more shortD. shortest

My room is smaller than yours.

Our country is more powerful than theirs.

He was more lucky than clever.

She was more surprised than angry.

This is more a war movie than a western.

  20. —Minister, are you satisfied with the performance of the Chinese athletes in Athens Olympics?

—Yes, it couldn’t have been ______.

  A. worse B. betterC. so badD. the worse

  1. B。it can’t be worse 在此相當(dāng)于 It’s the worst thing I ever knew。

  3. A。We couldn’t have picked a worst day 與 It is the worst day we’ve picked 同義。

  4. A。a better 為 a better one 之省略。

  11. C。still/even/much less

  12. D。“the+比較級(jí),the+比較級(jí)”意為“越……

  13. C。兩者比較用比較級(jí),表示“比……”;同級(jí)比較用 as...as 或 not as/so...as。

  14. D。no better than =as badly as,意為“一樣不好”。

  16. A。本題關(guān)鍵是對(duì)not in the least 的理解,它的意思是“一點(diǎn)也不好”,故可知道天氣很糟糕。

  17. A。根據(jù) How stupid!I fear there’s no hope for him 可知說話人對(duì) Jim 新工作表現(xiàn)的評(píng)價(jià)是負(fù)面的,故選 A。no better than 表示“與……

  18. A。I’ve never seen a finer one 的實(shí)際意思是 This is the finest one I’ve ever seen。
