一、First, the analysis of the teaching material:

The teaching material is a dialogue. It is focused on ordering food on the phone. Such a topic is related to our daily life, so it is helpful to raise learning interests of Grade 7 students and it will be also helpful to improve their spoken English and communicative ability.

二、Teaching aims and demands:

1. Knowledge objects

First, Enable the Ss to remember the following words & phrases: pizza, size, cheese, orange, dollar, leave, Pizza Express

Understand and master the names of some foodsRemember the plural forms of some

‘【foods: tomatoes, potatoes

Then, Get the Ss to be familiar with these sentence patterns and be able to ask and answer questions using the important sentence drills:

Will you leave your name and telephone number?

2. Ability objects

To improve the four skills.

To develop students’ ability of ordering food on the phone.

To train the students’ ability of working in pairs and groups.

To Cultivate students’ ability of imagination and creation.

To encourage students to be brave enough to speak English more in class.

To encourage students to co-operate with others.

To encourage students to cherish our food and do housework for our parents.

三、Teaching key points and difficult points:

1. Key points:
(1). To help the Ss to communicate with each other.
(2). To develop the Ss’ interest in English.
(3). To master the useful expressions about how to make phone calls and use them freely.

2. Difficult points:
(1) How to make up dialogues and act them out.
(2) How to write the right whole sentences.
(3) To enable the Ss to study in groups and co-operate skillfully.

2. Audio-visual approach

As we all know: the main instructional aims of learning English in the Middle School is to cultivate students’ abilities of listening, speaking, reading, writing and their good sense of the English language. So in this lesson, I’ll mainly use “Communicative” teaching method, “Audio-visual” teaching method and “Task-based” teaching method. That is to say, I’ll let the Ss to get a better understanding of the key structures of the dialogue. I’ll give the Ss some tasks and arrange different kinds of activities: free talk, watching pictures, performing and group work.

六、Afterwards, the design of the teaching procedure and the class activities:

I’ll finish this lesson in five steps. First, I’ll divide the Ss into four groups and bring a competition into the class. At last let’s see which group performs best.
Step 1 Warm-up

1.                  Free talk between teachers and students about their favourite fruit, vegetable, drink and food.

During the talk, mention the plural forms of tomato and potato. The purpose of my

designing: These topics are related to today’s lesson and the students’ life. It can

arouse the students’ interest in speaking English. It’s also prepared for making a pizza.
What’s your favourite fruit?

What’s your favourite vegetable?  tomato ——tomatoes; potato——potatoes

What’s your favourite drink?   orange (juice)

What’s your favourite food?

Step 2 Lead-in (1m)

With a sign of pizzahut, the teacher lead in today’s topic. As we know, Pizzahut is famous for its pizza around the world.

T: Do you know this sign? (Pizzahut) 必勝客

Step 3 Presentation&Practice

1. Present the new words with the pictures:

Present the new words pizza, Pizza Express, cheese, dollar, size with the pictures

through free talk between teachers and students.

Do you like this kind of food? -------pizza  Pizza Express  dollar

Do you like a pizza with cheese on it? cheese

What size would you like, a big one or a small one? ---- size

2.      Present the dialogue step by step  

I’ll arrange some situations to present the dialogue. I’ll write the key points on the Bb while they are watching the pictures. After watching, I’ll teach them to read the words and sentences on the Bb. Make sure they can read them well. Let the Ss listen to the dialogue with a pizza order form. And then the Ss are required to read and practice the dialogue in pairs. At last I’ll ask the Ss to act it out with a partner. Then find out which group act it out well. I’ll give them red stars.

Purpose of my designing: By providing situations with pictures, it makes the relationships between the Ss better; let the Ss have a chance to practise their listening and spoken ability.

a.       T: Suppose you’re a waiter in Pizzahut, I’m coming into your shop. What will you say to me first?

b. T: Suppose you’re a customer in Pizzahut. Work with the partners according to the model:

Pair work: A: Hello! I’d like a pizza.

B: What would you like on it?

A: Tomatoes, bananas and potatoes on it, please.

B: What size would you like?

A: A big one, please.

B: Would you like something to drink?

A: Some orange, please.

3.      Listen and then fill in the order form below.

4.      Present the dialogue and practice it in pairs.

5.      Ask some pairs to act it out.

Step 4 Production

I’ve prepared 3 tasks for the students. First, make a survey about their partners favourite pizza and then make a report about it. Second, make a poster for the pizza express in groups and make ads for the pizza express; At last, let the students do the role-play in pairs. Student A work in the pizza house. Student B act as the customer. Call up and order a pizza. Say what you would like. Take an order for a pizza. Ask about the size, the price and the toppings for the pizza, and the name and the phone number of your customer.

Purpose of my designing: “Task-based” teaching method is mainly used here to develop the Ss’ ability of communication. In this step, I encourage the students to think hard and co-operate with others. Train the students’ ability of imagination and creation. At the same time, they can consolidate the key words and sentences learned in this lesson. Proper competition can arouse the Ss’ interest in English learning. If the Ss can finish this task well, they will benefit a lot in their spoken English.

Task 1 Making a survey

1. Ask the students to share their favorite pizza with three most like toppings and then interview their partner’s favorite pizza (including size, toppings and drinks)

  What size pizza would you like?

  What drinks would you like?

2. Make a report.

Sample: I’d like big pizza with pork, pineapples and carrots. My friend Ann would like small pizza with tomatoes ,potatoes, apples on it..

Task 2 Making a pizza express

文本框: You must have nice pictures and good designs.
You must have many kinds of toppings and drinks.
The specials should have a good price.

 

 

 

 

Group work: According to the model, design the poster for the pizza express.

The…pizza with…on it is only 2.

The cheapest for1 has .....

The drinks are only.....

Order a pizza!

Sample: 

We have some kinds of great specials! The Chinese pizza with eggs and green vegetables on it is only 2 dollars. The cheapest for 1 dollar has vegetables and cheese. The drinks are only 60 cents. Order a pizza today!

Task 3 Role-play

Pair work   Student A work in the pizza house. Student B act as the customer. Call up and order a pizza. Say what you would like. Take an order for a pizza. Ask about the size, the price and the toppings for the pizza, and the name and the phone number of your customer.

Step 5 Homework

1.      Read and recite the dialogue. ------For Level B students.

2.      Make up new dialogues and finish the exercise paper. -----For Level A students.

For the students of different levels, I arrange different homework. I think homework is so important that the Ss should speak English as much as they can in class or after class. It is necessary for the Ss to do some extensive exercises after class to consolidate the knowledge they learned.
