How much does it cost?

Using the Open Forex Platform is completely free of charge. We do however have paid support plans, and also accept donations. For advantages of having a support plan please consult the corresponding page on the site.

What computer language is it based on? What should I know if I want to code using the platform?

Open Forex Platform uses C# .NET as its main language. However, since it is part of the .NET platform, you can utilize all other .NET languages (30+ incl. Managed C++, VB.NET, J# etc.). You can also use the platform from any non-managed (Win32) based application by devising a simple wrapper.

Should I be a programmer to use the platform?

No, any computer literate person can use the platform. In case you simply want to use some of the component, experts or some custom application code integrated with the platform, you can do so without any programming involved. However since Open Forex Platform is an open source trading platform, it gives anyone capable of coding a great environment to work on his forex trading strategies.

Does it support automated trading capabilities?

Yes, automated and semi-automated trading strategies can be utilized using the Platform. The programming languages applicable for this purpose are all of the .NET supported ones (C#, C++.NET, VB.NET etc).

Can I integrate the Open Forex Platform to my application?

Typically yes, the OFxP is open source, so you can choose what parts to integrate to and how to do it. The OFx Platform is built around a strict module architecture so you can replace, modify or select to communicate with any of the existing modules or built a new one.

How can I trade using the platform? Who is going to be my trading broker?

What Open Forex Platform provides is a way to connect to the many existing trading brokers. So far we support integration to the following trading applications: MetaTrader v.4 (Interactive Brokers, NinjaTrader and other coming soon), meaning your trades will be passing trough those applications (or broker interfaces) and all trading information (quotes) will come from there as well. We are also looking towards integrating directly with some of the currently existing trading APIs available.

Can I perform back testing on the Open Forex Platform?

Yes, the platform comes with a small set of historical data that you can do various back testing upon (also starting v.0.8 Data Download Center Component is available to allow data acquisition from online sources). It also comes with a nice environment (User Interface and programming wise) that is suited for generating and displaying testing results.

Does the Open Forex Platform have any AI components?

Yes, the Open Forex Platform has a set of Genetic Programming Classes. We are also working on some neural networks functionality and those will become available with version 1.1.

How do I know the platform will not steal my secret expert source code?

Simple, Open Forex Platform is open source, you can easily see what goes “behind” and be sure no part of your precious know how is being “peeked at”. No client source code is uploaded to the server in any stage of the operation of the platform.

Can I run more than one instance of the application at the same time?

Yes, but make sure to do a full copy of the containing folder to a new location and run that. Otherwise the two instances will use the same database and data storage files, and some error might occur.
