大家都知道第一印象很重要。老外人雖然很講效益,但和人第一次見面時,往往會先問一些無關(guān)緊要的問題。這叫做“Breaking the ice"(establish a rapport )。工作面試時也一樣。一見面:
The interviewer might ask you something like:
"How are you today?"
"Did you have any trouble finding this place?"
"How did you get here?"
你不要為"interviewer" 那么友好的問話和語調(diào)感到吃驚。The interviewer wants to put you at ease (help you relax).
So you just answer the question without going into too much detail.
The most important part最重要的:
面試時,最重要的部分是談你的"experience and qualifications". 所以當(dāng)interviewer和你寒暄時,你可不要扯遠了。 Qualifications: include your education from High School on and any special training you may have done in the past.
Experience is any work that you have done that is directly or indirectly related to the job you are applying for. Talk about your education談你接受的教育:
因為你要談的教育發(fā)生在過去,所以記住了要use past tenses.
For example: "I attended the University of New York from 1992 to 1996."
"I graduated with a degree in social science"
如果你目前還是個學(xué)生,那么應(yīng)該使用present tenses:
For example:
"I am currently studying at the University of New York and will graduate with a degree in computer science in this fall."
or "I am studying English at City College of New York."
當(dāng)談你受的教育時,可別忘了提起你參加過的培訓(xùn),得到過的證書和選過的一些和這份工作有關(guān)的課程。譬如computer training, correspondence courses, CCNP Certificate等等。
因為英語不是你的母語,而你的工作要求你會英語,那么你還得特別提到你的英語嫻熟程度或告訴對方你是如何在這方面做努力的。
Talk about your working Experience and Qualifications淡淡你的工作經(jīng)歷和資格:
工作經(jīng)歷這個話題在工作面試中占最主要的地位。所以你要詳細地談。通常interviewer會很想了解你以前做過些什么和你是怎么做的。 - 記住這個時候你可不要謙虛。你要很自信地,很流暢地談你在以前和現(xiàn)在的工作中做了些什么和怎么做的。
談時要注意時態(tài)。提到目前還在做的工作的時,要用present perfect or present perfect continuous,這樣對方才能知道你如今還在為這家公司服務(wù)。
For example:
"Learn-American-English have employed me for the last 2 years as a bookkeeper."
or "I have been creating customer accounts for 6 months."
當(dāng)提起過去的工作經(jīng)歷時,要使用past tenses。 這樣對方就能領(lǐng)會你已經(jīng)離開那家公司。
For example:
"I was employed by Learn-American-English from 1996 to 1999 as a bookkeeper."
or "I worked as a receptionist at the learn-American-English while I was living in New York."
Talking about qualifications談你的資格:
交談中,你需要向?qū)Ψ秸故灸阌屑夹g(shù)和資格勝任你如今申請的這份工作。因為過去的經(jīng)歷并不一定正好完全適合于當(dāng)今申請的這份工作,所以向?qū)Ψ秸故灸愕哪芰Ψ浅V匾?/span>
雖然過去的工作和如今申請的工作不一樣, 但如果你能顯示自己的"adapting skills", 那么通常情況下你也會有很大的機會得到這份工作。
Following is a wonderful example of adapting skills to fit the job desired:
A Chinese new immigrant from Beijing who had worked as the manager of an important theater in Beijing. Unfortunately, he had to start from the beginning in New York and therefore wanted to get a job as a rodent exterminator (someone who kills rats!). When asked what kind of experience he had, he replied that, as the manager of the theater, he had had to make sure that the theater was always rodent free and was therefore capable of doing the job well!
注意:通常情況下interviewer在interview中很注重觀察的是你的能力和你的“willingness to learn”.
Use the Right Word to Express (Verb)選用確切的詞語來表達(動詞):
